Willowbrook and THA earn award for revitalized homes in north Tulsa

Willowbrook Construction’s Tulsa Housing Authority project has earned an Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Award. ABC is a national trade association representing the construction industry that honors exceptional quality, safety and innovation in its Excellence in Construction Awards.

Willowbrook, in partnership with the Tulsa Housing Authority and Architects Collective, has completed a comprehensive multi-phase renovation that transformed three aging and occupied apartment communities into renewed, welcoming neighborhoods. The project delivered 247 upgraded mixed-use, mixed-income units across the Mohawk and Seminole Hills communities, elevating both quality of life and community pride for residents in North Tulsa.

“I had the privilege of partnering with Willowbrook on the comprehensive renovations of Seminole Hills and Mohawk Manor Apartments,” said Senior Project Manager Jacob Stoulil of the Tulsa Housing Authority. “These two projects demanded not only technical excellence but also vision, sensitivity and an unwavering commitment to community impact. What Willowbrook delivered was nothing short of transformative.”

The renovation introduced modernized kitchens, updated living spaces, improved laundry rooms, and refreshed bedrooms designed for long-term comfort. New playgrounds now offer vibrant outdoor gathering spaces for families, while renovated clubhouses and newly added garages provide practical amenities that enhance daily living. Residents expressed excitement as they moved into their upgraded homes, returning to communities that support comfort, dignity, and a renewed sense of pride.

“This project demonstrated what is possible when flexibility, empathy, craftsmanship, and community engagement come together,” said Willowbrook Senior Project Manager Brenna Wells. “By navigating major construction challenges while staying deeply connected to residents, the team delivered more than improved buildings. They delivered a true transformation that revitalized three longstanding Tulsa communities.”

Renovating fully occupied sites required significant coordination and care. Despite shifting project scopes and construction complexities, the team maintained full tenant occupancy throughout the duration of the project. Working with THA, Willowbrook’s team built meaningful relationships with residents, many of whom visited regularly for conversation and support. What began as a job site became an unexpectedly warm part of the community fabric.

Larry Kester with Architects Collective praised the project team for efficiency. “As the architect firm on this project, we had the privilege of collaborating closely with Willowbrook from the early stages of design through completion of the project. Willowbrook has been dedicated to providing quality craftmanship, attention to detail, and proactive project management to ensure the success of this project both aesthetically and functionally.”
