National Saddlery Celebrates Grand Opening at New Location in OKC Stockyards

National Saddlery opened a brand new store on the northeast corner of SW 113th and S Agnew Avenue in the historic Stockyards District. National Saddlery has been in continuous operation in what is now Historic Stockyards City since it began in 1926. National Saddlery is still a working saddle shop, but also stocks a wide selection of saddles, tack, ropes and rodeo gear from the industry's leading manufacturers.  What started as a small saddle shop has evolved over the years into a trusted supplier of quality saddles, tack and gear for the western horseman. National Saddlery has a special emphasis on the sports of roping, barrel racing, roughstock & rodeo, and offers the area’s most complete selection for beginners through professional rodeo athletes.  With a nod to the agricultural industry in the area, National Saddlery also stocks supplies for the farmer and rancher who depend on equine partners in their days' work.  Jessica Reed with the National Saddlery stated, “Planning for our new store started with a dream two years ago.  We really wanted this building to be more than just a place to shop, but rather a place with the look and feel that reflects our western way of life.  We thank our customers and vendor partners for their input and help, and we are excited to serve our customers from this new storefront!”

The National Saddlery consists of a new 11,600 square foot single story building. The exterior is clad in red brick and cast stone accents with black steel canopies and black metal frame windows in keeping with the historic vernacular of the area.  The original “National Saddlery” neon blade sign was refurbished and relocated from the original store location just across the street on Agnew.  The interior will provide a large spacious retail space including ropes, tack & supplies, roughstock and western lifestyle featuring a large timber lodge structure in the center and a Lucchese boot boutique.

CMSWillowbrook is the Construction Management firm building the project. Taylor Collins, Project Manager explains his excitement of working on this project. “National Saddlery has long been a staple in the western community, and it has been a pleasure for CMSWillowbrook to build its new home in the OKC Stockyards.  The owner, manager and architect have all been wonderful to work with over the last 10 months and it is always enjoyable when everyone works together towards a greater goal.  Overall, a great project!”

The architecture firm working on this project is HSE Architects. Todd Edmonds, AIA, Principal stated, “I am thrilled to be a part of this project and to contribute to the development of the historic Stockyards District, as well as, helping the Owner’s vision come to life.”

Many gathered for the grand opening ceremony in support of the National Saddlery, and in attendance included the President of the Oklahoma National Stockyards and also Stockyards City Main Street Kelli Payne who shared a few words. “As president of one of Oklahoma’s longest running agricultural businesses, it is an honor to support yet another icon in the western and agricultural sector with their grand re-opening in such a fine fashion,” stated Kelli. “National Saddlery has long been associated with the finest craftsmanship and selection that help no only Oklahoma ranchers, but helps outfit the world with excellent products! We tip our hat to this new and improved location that will add value to Oklahoma City and across the big pond. Congratulations National Saddlery, and we look forward to many years of continuing progress!”

Jo Wiens, owner of National Saddlery states, “As National Saddlery enters its 96th year in business, we are honored to complete our new storefront in Oklahoma’s Historic Stockyards City.  We thank our customers, friends, and fellow merchants in the Stockyards District for their support throughout this process.  A special thank you to Todd Edmonds, HSE Architects, and the entire CMSWillowbrook team for the vision and hard work to complete this project.”
