National Saddlery Wins 2022 AGC Build Oklahoma Award

The National Saddlery new store in Oklahoma City is a winner of the 2022 AGC of Oklahoma Build Oklahoma award in the Commercial-Retail up to $5M.

This store consists of a new 11,600 SF single -story building. The interior provides a large retail space including saddles, ropes, tack and supplies, roughstock and western lifestyle featuring a Lucchese boot boutique. The Architects were HSE Architects. This project is in the Historic Stockyard District, across the street from the famous Cattleman’s restaurant. This is a new home for the client and it helped bring new vitalization to the area. Constructing a new building with the intent of it blending in with its 95 -year old surroundings within the stockyards, was a challenge not common within our industry. With the storage of heavy timber during the time of construction, we decided to wrap the steel lodge structure with 1/2” cedar planks to achieve that timber look. The neon sign (original from the 1930s) had to be fully reconstructed. A neon gas mixture was established to match the original neon glow, and the sign was stripped, sanded and repainted. Structural steel tubing was then added inside the sign to provide enough support to hang it from the new building without any additional wires that could possibly distract from the facade. The custom Lucchese Boot Boutique, timber lodge structure, and refurbished neon sign are all key attributes that make this project one of Oklahoma’s best. They are all synonymous with Stockyard City’s heritage of the west.
