CMSWillowbrook Director of Operations Receives Journal Record's "Achievers Under 40" Award

The Journal Record announced the 20th class of Achievers under 40. Bryan Miles, CMSWillowbrook Director of Operations - Tulsa, was one of this year’s 45 honorees that was recognized at an evening celebration on Thursday, May 11 at the Oklahoma History Center.

The Journal Record’s Achievers under 40 program seeks men and women in all industries who are making a difference in their professions and the community. These individuals are leaders that focus on making Oklahoma a better place to live. Bryan has worked at all levels of Construction Management. He has 20 years of construction experience overseeing multiple construction projects. Bryan has distinguished himself in the industry by using his leadership to bring solutions and accountability to our team.

“In my profession, I’ve been very fortunate to be a part of many education construction projects in Oklahoma. At CMSWillowbrook we only work within the state of Oklahoma, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed building schools in the Tulsa area.” Bryan continues, “I’ve taken this as an opportunity to speak at my children’s schools about my career and trying to get the next generation interested in a career in construction. Most people don’t know this type of career exists, so to me it’s refreshing to let the next generation know that this is a very viable option for a career path.”

Bryan explains about beginning his career at CMSWillowbrook. “When I first started at CMSWillowbrook, one of the biggest projects the Tulsa office had ever been awarded was about to break ground. The project was the new Bixby West Elementary and Intermediate school. At 155,000 square feet the facility was certainly the biggest project, in terms of physical size, that I had ever been a part of and certainly been Project Director for. Overall, the project ended up being a huge success. I credit this to our skilled and detailed operations team managing the day-to-day operations on the project and also one of the most exceptional clients I have ever had in my career. Our team completed the project a month ahead of schedule, under budget, with zero safety incidents, and with exceptional quality. Since completion, we’ve worked as a cohesive team completing projects successfully across NE Oklahoma for clients including: Tulsa Tech, Oklahoma State University, and the City of Pryor. We’re currently off to a great start (thanks to the team) working on projects for Tahlequah Public Schools, Tulsa Housing Authority, Oklahoma Military Department, and Connors State College.”

Bryan graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from Oklahoma State University.  He is a member of The Pencil Box, OSU Construction Management Advisory Board and the Tulsa Children’s Museum. Bryan has achieved numerous awards and certifications over the years including; the DBIA (Design-Build Institute of America certification, the LEED AP BD+C Professional Certification, Outstanding General Contractor of the Year by the ASA (American Subcontractors Association of Oklahoma), and has achieved numerous project awards.

Bryan stated, “Throughout my profession, I feel that my achievements have made a positive impact by participating on the OSU Construction Management Advisory Board. I enjoy providing feedback on the current program and making sure the classes being taught apply to real-world applications. For my community, I feel that participating on The Pencil Box Board of Directors has made a positive impact. Since joining the board in 2018, I’ve appreciated giving back to the local community and having an impact on the education of future Oklahoma professionals. One thing in particular I’ve become fond of is volunteering for our back-to-school shopping with teachers. By doing so, I hear from teachers first-hand how The Pencil Box has made a difference in their professional lives. They are all so grateful to receive supplies they desperately need for day-to-day activities. It truly is an amazing experience that I’m so grateful to be a part of.”

When describing the key to his success, Bryan said, “Being kind to others and always treating them with respect has been my mantra. Regardless if you’re talking to a CEO or the janitor, everyone deserves the same respect. Hard work pays off. I’ve lived it! I grew up in a family full of educators, but I was the first person to pursue a career in construction. Hard work was the only thing I had to rely on in order to succeed and move up in the industry.”

Bryan lives in Tulsa, soon to be married to his fiancé Brionne and has four children.
