CMSWillowbrook Receives National Award for Ardmore Readiness Center

Oklahoma City, Okla. (August 24, 2020)- CMSWillowbrook has been awarded a 2020 National Design-Build Award of Merit for the design and construction of the new Ardmore Readiness Center in Ardmore, OK. Presented by the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA), the project was selected from nationwide entries under the category, “Best Federal, State, County and Municipal Project” in the annual Project/Team Awards Competition. As announced by DBIA, “The 2020 award-winning projects were evaluated by a distinguished panel of design-build of design-build delivery and shines as an example of what is achieved when DBIA’s principles are valued and implemented.”

Design-Build is a project delivery method which combines architectural and engineering design services with construction performance under one contract. One entity- the design-build team- works with the project owner to deliver complete design and construction services. Our design-build team is nationally certified by the DBIA and recently received national recognition by the DBIA.

John Morrison, DBIA, CMSWillowbrook’s Quality and Control Manager for this project stated, “Using Design-Build for the Ardmore Readiness Center was a great experience. The opportunity to truly partner with the Oklahoma Military Department and the entire team of designers, contractors and suppliers allowed us to leverage expertise in ways that traditional project delivery simply doesn’t offer. This 360 degree approach to collaboration resulted in a facility that exceeded everyone’s expectations.”

The Ardmore Readiness Center is an 82,568 SF new facility for the Oklahoma National Guard, constructed on 45.9 acres in 2019. CMSWillowbrook served as the Design/ Builder, partnering with GSB, Inc. Architects and Planners and a supporting cast of more than 40 engineering firms, consultants, trade contractors and suppliers. Together they provided an integrated design and construction solution and delivered a modern training and deployment facility. The project includes administrative and personnel accomodations; classrooms and training facilities; secure battalion storage; multipurpose facilities; and state-of-the-art technology infrastructure compliant with state and federal requirements. Sustainability, resilience and energy considerations have been incorporated into the design to meet, as a minimum, LEED Silver Certification. CMSWillowbrook’s integrated team of architects, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers was initially selected by the State of Oklahoma as the winning design proposal, meeting the programmed performance requirements within the construction cost limitation.

As a Merit Award winner, the Ardmore Readiness Center will now compete for a National Award of Excellence and Project of the Year to be announced at DBIA’s Design-Build Conference and Expo Awards Ceremony, October 29th.
